The School consists of two departments: Department of Chinese and Department of History; 5 undergraduate programs: Chinese Language and Literature (normal), Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese International Education, History and Cultural Relics and Museology; Topic History, a provincial key discipline.
The School currently has more than 1,140 full-time undergraduates, 25 international students, and 46 full-time teachers, with 80% of teachers having senior titles and 74% of teachers having doctorate degrees; 1 candidate of Fujian provincial “Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Project”, 1 Fuzhou “Excellent Talent”, 3 Fuzhou “Mindu talents”, 7 candidates of the “New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan for Fujian Provincial Universities”, 6 candidates of “Fujian Training Plan of University Outstanding Young Scientific Research Talents”, 7 part-time master’s tutors and 11 double-position talents.
The School has 1 provincial scientific research platform (Mindu Historical and Cultural Research Center), 3 Fujian outstanding traditional culture and education demonstration bases (Mindu Culture and Education Demonstration Base, Fujian Local Literature and Language Heritage Innovation Education Base, and Fuzhou Min School Guqin Education Demonstration Base). The Mindu Historical and Cultural Research Center won the title of Provincial May 1 Pioneer and the Excellent Humanities and Social Sciences Base in Fujian Province. In addition, the School has the only museum-like “Fujian Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall” in universities in Fuzhou. In the past three years, 11 scientific research projects at the provincial or ministerial level or above have been approved (including 1 national social science project and 2 humanities and social science projects by the Ministry of Education), and 82 academic papers (including 1 SSCI paper and 25 CSSCI papers), and 6 monographs (5 are published by class-A publishers) have been published. 2 third prizes have been awarded for outstanding achievements in social sciences in Fujian Province.
With talent training as a focus, the School is devoted to cultivating the students’ practical ability. 31 internship bases have been established, and students are regularly selected to study and exchange at Nanhua University in Taiwan and Renmin University of China. In the past three years, students have won 4 second prizes and 7 third prizes in Fujian Normal University Students’ Teaching Skills Competition, 4 third prizes in professional planning competitions and scientific and technological competitions at the provincial level or above, and 25 third and above prizes (including 8 first prizes) in provincial college students’ literary creation, and 10 projects of innovation and entrepreneurship training for college students at or above the provincial level. The graduate employment rate reaches 98% or higher. The admission rate for volunteer posts at Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) has been kept at around 20%.
The School actively carries out foreign cooperation: Inter-collegiate cooperation with Confucius Institute at Brock University in Canada, Datong Chinese School in Sydney, Australia, School of Management, Nanhua University in Taiwan, National Taipei University of Technology, etc.; university-enterprise cooperation with the four largest digital publishing companies in Taiwan (including Hyweb Technology), Fujian Tanshishan Ruins Museum, Fujian Guang Decoration Design Engineering Co., Ltd., Fuzhou Academy of Literature, Fuzhou Silk Road International Film Art Gallery. The School has been entrusted by the Mindu Culture Research Association to edit several volumes of the General History of Fuzhou (about 3.5 million words).
The Party Committee of the School adheres to the principle of “grasping party building around the center and promoting the center through party building”. It consists of 2 teaching and working party branches, 3 student party branches, and 3 professional student party branches. 32 honors above the provincial level have been achieved in the past five years. The Party Committee of the School has been awarded the honorary title of “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Colleges and Universities in Fujian Province” by the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the Youth League Committee has been awarded the “Fujian May Fourth Red Flag Youth Committee” by the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League.
Based on the historical and cultural characteristics of Mindu, the School relies on the advantages of humanities, language and arts to tell the story of Fuzhou, actively contributing to the construction of Maritime Fuzhou and exploration of a new way of cross-strait integration and development, and striving to build the School into a “local, application-oriented, and distinctive” important town for the cultivation of talents in humanities and social science.
